Opportunities - Zimbabwe
& The Way Forward
Zimbabwe
is on the mend although there are a few issues to work through, for the
discerning investor/entrepreneur this may be the right time to invest.
KEY FACTS
-
The
country is in its 11th month of a
Rand/US$ based economy having adopted a
multi currency system in February 2009.
-
Zimbabwe
has signed a Bi-Lateral Property
Protection Agreement (BIPPA) with South
Africa, so all SA investors have
"special protection" under this
agreement.
-
Many of
the big South African companies, banks
and mining houses are already in
Zimbabwe and are planning to spend more
money in development, expansion and
exploration.
-
IDC and
DBSA are being incentivised to give
loans to Zimbabwean based companies and
for Zimbabwean based transactions. (±
US$5m per deal). Which makes expansion
into Zimbabwe for an SA based company
much more lucrative and easier.
OPPORTUNITIES
-
There are several companies requiring
partners...majority and minority stake options available for decent
business with potential but need working capital or raw materials.
-
There is a hardware-retail chain (with
20-40 stores) country wide interested in establishing a consignment
or agent relationship with an SA company in hardware and electricals
etc. Bank Guarantees with Barclays, Standard Chartered and MBCA
(affiliated to Nedbank) are possible.
-
We also have a company making foam
rubber mattresses and bedding wanting to tie up marketing alliances
in South Africa and Namibia.
-
There is also a company in pottery and
crockery requiring marketing and distribution alliances in SA and
Namibia
